People of Uttranchal/Uttarakhand say that valley of flowers is god’s own country. It is hidden from outside world, known only to some highland inhabitants of the Bhyunder valley. It was avidly avoided by the shepherds of the hills, beleving it is to be the celestial playground of the god, nymphs and fairies.
This beautiful valley was discover by the world renowned Britisher explrer, botanist and mountaineer frank S.smith, in 1937. Valley of flowers is mystery till today. An irresistible wonder for nature lovers. It is one of the India’s most Coveted national parks.
The Valley: This unusual valley is flanked in either side by lofty peaks that remain snow-capped round the year. The Pushpawati River, emerging from the glacial resources of Rataban range, cuts through the valley to divine in two. Many streams flowing from the glaciers merge into the river. One has to walk over the glacial dams to cross the streams, quite often.
From November to May. The valley remains under thick layers of snow. the thaw happens in June when the valley bursts into colors. The moist turf to pulsate with life innu, erable plants and flowers shoot up conjuring bewitching beauties around.
The Best season to Visit:
June-August is the best season to visit valley when it is full bloom splendour.More than 300 species of rare wild flowers bloom here, which is an important happening for the botanist and trekkers in the region some of the colorful plants come out in full colors like Brahma kamal, Bistorta, Marigold and many more.
Rare Beauties
Arisaema Costatum, Which is known as Arum, is a beautiful plant, whose head resembles that of a cobra. It grows in the valley in splendid isolation. Nomocharis Oxypetala, the rarest and the most beautiful plant resembles the full blown sun. It grows in the slopes of the valley.
