Ajmer was founded by Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan in the 7th century. The city is a unique mix of Hinduism and Islam. Ajmer is now synonymous with the Dargah of the sufi saint Khwaja Moin-ud-din Chisti. Ajmer lies at the base of Pushkar.

Climate: The best time to visit Ajmer is between the months of July to March.

How to reach:
By Train: Regular and frequent train service from major cities from Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad connect Ajmer.
By Air: The nearest airport is at a distance of 132 kms located in Jaipur.
By Bus: Ajmer is easily accessible by road from Jaipur and Delhi.

What to see and what to do:

  • Dargah of Moin-ud-din-Chisti: The tomb is located at the base of a barren hill and is known as Khawaja sharif locally. The shrine has been built with donations and contributions from various Kings and Emperors. The shrine is famous both among Hindus and Muslims equally.
  • The Adhai-din-ka-jhonpra: It is located near the Dargah and is an exemplary example of Hindu and Islamic architecture.
  • Taragarh Fort: This fort is located on the top of a hill, which can be reached after a further climb from Adhai-din-ka-jhopra. This fort served as a military depot during the Mughal period.
  • Pushkar Fair: The Fair is held every year on the Kartik Purnima.The fair is famous for its bazaar particularly of camels. Traditional folk dancers and folk musicians add the much needed color and pomp to the fair.
