The town of Bhimtal is set amidst the state of Uttarakhand at an altitude of 1370 meters above sea level. The most important and the spectacular attraction of the entire place is the Bhimtal Lake which also has a small beautiful island in the between.
The lake is famous for river boating especially in the evening time. It is very famous among tourists. This town is also a nagar panchayat in the Nainital District. There is also a newly built Vikas Bhawan which takes care of many of the administrative operations.

The place is also famous for many temples and places of worship. Most famous temple is the Bhimeshwar Temple. This place has a 40 feet high dam which has been standing here since 17th century. Near the temple is the Garg Parvat which is the source of river Gargi.
Next are the Hidimba Parvat at a distance of 5kms and a very famous Nag Temple by the name Karkotaka.
