Alwar earlier known as Mewat and an ancient state is nearest to Delhi. Alwar is famous for its National Park and huge palaces. Palaces that belong to the 18 th century and have a fine blend of Rajput and Mughal styles of architecture. Various fortsĀ  make their presence e felt in the tourist maps.

How to reach:
Distance: It is located at a distance of 150 kms from Jaipur and 170 kms from Delhi.
By Train: The place is well connected with major destinations like Delhi, Ajmer, Jaipur and Jodhpur. Frequent trains are available connecting these places.
By Air: The nearest airport is at Delhi about 163 kms away.
By Bus: Regular bus services are available between Alwar and Delhi. Rajasthan is also well connected via road to Alwar.

What to see and what to do:

  • The Fort: The fort is huge and is constructed 595 meters above sea level. Babar and Jahangir had stayed here for some time. The fort has several gates – Jai Pol, Suraj Pol, Laxman Pol,Chand Pol, Kishan Pol and Andheri Gate. Also there are remains of Jal Mahal, Nikumbh Mahal, Salim Sagar, Suraj Kund and many temples.
  • Sariska Tiger Reserve: It was established in 1955 and is home to several wild animals and rare species like tiger, blue bull cheetal, sambhar, four horned antelope and the wild boar. The entire stretch of 800 km comes under the Project Tiger. The best time to visit the National Park is between the months of November to June.
  • Bala Quila: The fort was constructed well before the Mughal Empire rose to power. It houses several numbers of temples and palaces. It is huge and magnificent architecture and needs a definite visit when in Alwar.
  • Vinay Vilas Mahal: This place is also known as City Palace and is an excellent example of Rajput and Mughal styles of architecture. This palace currently houses a museum displaying rich collection of items.
  • Artificial Lake: Right behind the city palace is an artificial lake built by Maharaj Vinay Singh with few temples along its banks and exquisite chhatri with Bengali roof and arches known as Moosi Maharani Ki Chhatri.
  • Purjan Vihar (Compay Garden): A scenic garden laid during the rule of Maharaja Shiv Dan Singh. The cool shades of garden make it an ideal picnic place.
  • Vijay Mandir Palace: The royal residence of Maharaja Jai Singh. Migratory birds and waterfowls can be seen feeding in the small lake.
  • Siliserh Lake: The water palace of Siliserh with a lake surrounded by low wooded hills.A royal hunting palace which has now been converted into an attractive spot for holidays.
  • Talvrakash: This is place where Hot Sulphur springs are located.This place is of piligrimage importance.
  • Bhartrihari Temple.
  • Pundupol: The temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. This backed by the delightful sight of Pandupol or Pandu gate where a cascading spring emerges from hard and compact rocks.
  • Sariska Palace: This palace is situated inside in the Sariska Tiger Reserve and served as the hunting lodge for Maharaja Jai Singh then and now is heritage hotel.
  • Kankwari Fort: Kankwari Fort is a fine example of a jungle fort. High inaccessible, deep in the tiger infested forest. Prince Dara Shikoh heir to the Mughal throne had held his brother Aurangzeb captive in this fort.
  • Bhangarh: It is a town which lies inside of Sariska sanctuary and hosts theĀ  Someshwar and Gopinath temples which has exquisite carvings.
  • Jain Temple, Tijara: Ancient temple dedicated to the eighth Tirthankar.One of the important places of pilgrimage for Jains.
